Glimmer Warning was a project that celebrated those small moments of everyday joy and positivity that bring happiness and calm into our lives.

Through original music and poetry written by members of our orchestra, this work explored the idea of how during dark and destructive times, actively seeking out those pockets of happiness and hope in daily life, however small, can save you.

It was first performed in November 2024 at one of our favourite local venues, The Old Market in Hove. The evening was made even more special when, in the show’s second half, the Orchestra were joined on the stage by the fabulous Wham Jam Thank You Ma/am community choir, and together we performed original arrangements of some much-loved uplifting hits. Based on the response from the sell-out – and very supportive –  home crowd, anyone attending who needed some moments of glimmer that day, found them that evening.

Glimmer Warning was also performed at Fabrica during the CINECITY Brighton Film Festival 2024, alongside an exclusive screening of The Creative High, a documentary exploring the role the arts can play in addiction recovery, and Found, a short film from New Note Dance. It was an inspiring evening, celebrating the transformative power of music and the arts.

Glimmer Warning included several original works of poetry written by members of the Orchestra, including this piece from Dawn:

Once upon a dream, a young child of three,

searched for something, they did not see.

Pink toes sank on carpets from under,

as she began to crawl AND wonder.

Hollow words drove to insane,

birdsong at Dawn, drinking to oblivion came.

Glimmers of Hope shone in words so softly spoke,

no barbed tongue, to prod or poke.

Seeing the horizon, hope sheltered me from thunder,

no more snapped twigs pulling me under.

A cup of warm tea, leaves unfurled,

a soul to renew, smiles that burst.

As Spring did rejoice,

heavy heart soothed by a voice.

Glimmers shimmering as communities grow,

microcosms of connection, through seeds they sow.

While old souls look back in time,

hearts filled beyond words, to remember acts of kind.
